Outdoor Children and Family Photoshoots

My clients love the colourful vibes of my outdoor family photos

Not only the subtle greens, yellows and browns of nature’s rich palate but the energy and expression caught on camera whilst the kids are having fun.

Many mums worry that their children will play up on the photoshoot and this just delays getting some wonderful family photos. There is only one solution to this problem. You need a photographer who is going to make the photoshoot relaxed and fun. If you have 3 boys who like nothing more than climbing trees and running around then you should have a photoshoot in the woods, doing exactly what they like to do, capturing them being themselves. My photoshoots are not stressful for you or your children, as I have enough experience to know how to distract them sufficiently to get that perfect shot!

When we have our initial chat, I will ask you about your family and which setting you think is going to get the best out of them. This could take into consideration any of the following: journey time - especially for little ones; time of day of day - perhaps capturing images late in the day when the sun is at it’s most golden? Also, time of year - do you want the bluebells to feature in your images or the beautiful browns and yellows of autumn? Perhaps summer meadows are your thing?

Your outdoor family photoshoot

My family sessions usually take around 60 - 90 minutes which is plenty of time for us to get an amazing gallery.

Worried about what to wear?! Simple, solid and subtle is the order of the day, neutral colours are perfect. If you have a colourful wardrobe then I will advise you on which colours to wear - according to season and location. It's generally best to avoid large graphics or bright neon colours as they can be really distracting. For more information about colour choices, please click here to read my blog post.

A few props are always good to have around for a family shoot. What do your children like to do? Ride their scooters, kick a ball, collect leaves or flowers? These are all great things to do, to get the children relaxed and in the mood. My photos are semi directed as I need to make sure that you are situated in the best available light,  once we have that then we can just have fun.

After your photoshoot

Within 2 weeks of your shoot I will invite you back to my studio for a 'Viewing and Ordering Session' where I'll show you approx 25 beautifully enhanced, fully edited images of your family and you can choose your favourite images and decide how you'd like to display then in your home. I will have samples of photo books and frames so you can decide which ones would look best with your home decor. The session usually lasts about 1 to 1.5 hours and takes place in my home in Harpenden where you can sit back, relax with a drink and just enjoy the experience.

We are so pleased with all the photographs - the only problem being they are all so good it is really hard to choose which ones to print and frame! The whole shoot so relaxed and fun, we all really enjoyed it and that shines through in the images captured. Fabulous photos!
