Your Newborn Photoshoot Experience

Professional photographs of your newborn baby will capture beautiful memories for life; with every glance you will be transported back to that special day. That is why it is so important that you have wonderful memories of the newborn photoshoot experience.

Let me guide you through the process of the newborn shoot. Let me look after you for a morning while you sit back and watch the session unfold. You will marvel at how your baby looks so adorable as I pose them into baby positions safely and calmly.

Preparation begins pre-shoot, with some advice on how to help your baby be his or her angelic best! Leave any concerns at the studio door; you will be greeted by a hot pot of coffee or tea along with lovely warm croissants.

I have two children of my own and have spent many hours with newborns during my shoots. Trust me! I understand that babies don’t always ‘perform’! However, I have several calming techniques to help soothe your baby, and they usually do the trick! If baby can’t settle? Don’t worry, we can easily reschedule for another day. Your photoshoot should be stress free and relaxing; catch up on your emails, scroll through social media, see what’s going on in the rest of the world. All you’ll need to do is top up their tiny tummies along the way.

While you watch something beautiful being caught on camera, I will provide YOU with something to eat too! I know this is a special day and I want you to treasure both the experience and the photographs forever.

What to expect on the day of your photoshoot

Newborn photography requires patience, so I allow at least 3 hours for your session to give your baby time to settle into a lovely deep sleep. On the day, my home studio will be purposely kept very warm and I’ll play white noise to help soothe your baby. My aim is to organise the session in a way that makes it enjoyable and special for you both. I have 2 children of my own so I understand that babies don’t always follow a schedule!

In advance of the session, please try to ensure that your baby had been well fed. I will swaddle your baby in wraps, typically in neutral colours. The photographs will show your baby in tasteful and simple poses which will highlight the natural beauty of a newborn. Photographs can be with or without clothing and I will provide a simple selection of little hats and bottoms for the shoot.

Any sibling shots will be taken at the start of the shoot. Once those images have been captured, it's best then for the little ones to pop out with dad or a grandparent until the end of the session. If you and your partner would like to be photographed with the baby then I recommend you wear a plain coloured top in a neutral colour, black, white or grey being the perfect choices.

All you need to bring is your regular change bag with spare nappies and a feed. If your baby has a dummy occasionally then please bring that along as it can serve as a distraction to get the baby off to sleep.

On the day of the session, please have your diary to hand so we can put a date in the diary so you can view and order your photographs. This usually takes place about 10 days after the shoot!

After your session

At this meeting you will be able to compare all your images so you can decide which ones to order. I will have samples of photo books and frames so you can decide which ones would look best with your home decor. The session usually lasts about 1 to 1.5 hours and takes place in my home in Harpenden where you can sit back, relax with a drink and just enjoy the experience.

I’m so pleased I had a photo shoot with Celine when my twin boys were only a few weeks old. Life is hectic with newborns, they grow so quickly and so it’s wonderful to have such gorgeous photos to remember them as tiny babies. Furthermore Celine captured them in a way I never would be able to do so (due to lack of time, patience and ability!) I would wholeheartedly recommend anyone with newborns to do the same.
