Posed vs Unposed Family Photographs: Which One is Right for You?

Posed vs Unposed Family Photographs

When it comes to family photography, one of the most common questions I get asked is whether I take mostly posed or unposed photographs. The answer is simple - I do both, but it really depends on your preferences.

Posed photographs are usually more traditional and formal, where everyone is looking at the camera and smiling. These shots are great for holiday cards and framing, and can capture a particular moment in time. On the other hand, unposed photographs are more candid and capture the essence of your family's dynamic. They're great for telling a story and capturing the little moments that make your family unique.

During a recent outdoor family shoot, I took a mixture of both posed and unposed photographs. Some shots had everyone looking at the camera, while others were more relaxed and captured the family having fun and spending time together. I always make sure to communicate with my clients and ask about their preferences before the shoot, so that we can capture the photos they truly want.

Here are some examples of both posed and unposed shots from the shoot:

As you can see, both types of photographs have their own unique qualities and beauty. Posed photographs can be stunning, but unposed photographs can capture the heart of your family in a way that posed photographs simply can't.

Ultimately, the choice between posed and unposed photographs is a personal one, and there's no right or wrong answer. I'm here to help you capture your family in the way that best represents you, and I'm happy to work with you to achieve that. So whether you prefer posed or unposed shots, let's create some beautiful memories together.

Best wishes,
